Creating clear standards for quality dementia care – Symposium
A key strategic priority for Dementia Australia is to improve the quality of support and care for people of all ages living with all forms of dementia by creating specific standards against which the quality of services can be assessed. To achieve this we need to define the key elements that underpin quality dementia care and how to embed these into practice. As a first step, Dementia Australia is canvassing the perspectives of people with dementia, their families and carers to determine what makes good dementia care.
Following this will be discussions with key stakeholders, including industry and government, before holding a symposium later in 2019 that will have a specific focus on the creation of dementia standards and how providers can effectively and sustainably implement them to ensure improved outcomes for people living with dementia, their families and carers.
This unique symposium will take the place of the biennial national dementia conference that has been held by Dementia Australia previously. Details of the symposium are being finalised now.
